Mallory's Story
The Catastrophe
It was Sunday afternoon, around noon. I was watering my peach tree when my heart stopped. I fell to my knees praying to god I would live. I woke up in the hospital with my granddaughter, she was short, skinny and loved crafts. She reached for my hand, she said "I love you grandma" , I said " I love you too dear " . A few days later I went home but this time it was different, I had a defibrillator strapped on my chest. I try to breath and instead of a clean fresh breath I get a cold painful inhale. I also have a necklace, not just any necklace a necklace that if you press the center, it calls an advisor to your house to help you. (exp. if you fall and can't get up you press the center)
I have trouble sleeping the first few nights thinking about that day, the
day that changed my life forever, I have no control of my body now,
it makes me feel like I'm floating in space. When the morning comes
I feel not worse but better, I feel truly alive finally I can teach my
grade 7 class again. A few mounts went by and I went back to
school (teaching). My class said hello, and we missed you but I didn't
believe it for one bit. My class disliked me, the only person who
would take a seat next to me was little Johnny Daniel. He LOVED
me he always had and that warmed my heart. When I walked through
the door he handed me a piece of toast, it tasted delicious. "Johnny
said here Mrs. Luanne I missed you" I said "I missed you too". The
school has this charity found raiser every year, usually they have
some games and 3 foot races, but this time was different there were no kids around. Only men in business suits, was this a trap to get
me to retire, or will I be forced to make my escape...

Haley's Story
The First Day
Today was my first day teaching at Torch school in Winnipeg Manitoba, I was very excited and very nervous. On my way to my first day of teaching I had to stop at the store, I forgot to bring a lunch! At the store there were many different food choices. I decided on tacos, I payed for my items and continued my route to school.
When I arrived to Torch school I made my way to my classroom where very impatient children sat or ran around. I placed my coat on my newly bought coat rack and said " attention class please take your seats." They didn't listen so I was shouting a little bit and they still did not listen. It was complete chaos! I finally got them to sit down and listen" hello class my name is Miss. Traps, today we are learning about the alphabet!" "I hate the alphabet!" a child yelled. " my mom taut me this already!" another child yelled. Everyone started yelling, my first day of teaching was a catastrophe. I have children crying, screaming, talking, some were even jumping off of tables and catching each other! I had no control at all over the students I just broke down and cried! When I thought this couldn't get any worse the principal walked in wearing a cape, he said "Miss Traps control you class!" Im trying they just won't listen to me!" I said, the principal left and I was just done by now! As I sat and cried the children quieted down. I slowly looked up and there they sat patiently. I stood up and said "ok let's try some writing." some sighed but still sat patiently. "Ok I will hand out paper and I want you to try writing two sentences about what you want this year to be. It could be good, happy, or really anything you want." The children started writing and I started thinking this could be ok, they might actually like me. The lunch bell went and the students darted out of the classroom, I picked up the papers and headed to lunch.
Walking down the hallways I found out that not just my students we're misbehaving. Children were pushing and screaming it was hard but I made it to the "Torch School" staff room. In the staff room teachers sat and ate I new most of them already I walked up to Miss Barret otherwise known as Stacy. "Hello Stacy how is your first day going?" I asked " Fine Jessie (my first name) yours?" Stacy asked "If started out bad but turned out good!" I replied "that's good!" Stacy said. I walk away to the toaster to toast my taco they taste better that way!
I enjoyed my lunch with Miss Barret then I returned to my classroom, there the children screamed and threw paper airplanes. I tried to calm them down but it wasn't working then all of a sudden my classroom neighbour Mr. Steven said " Jessie why is there a child drawing on my door!" "What oh my gosh I'm so sorry!" I ran outside the door and there sat Jake one of my students drawing on THE DOOR! " JAKE OFFICE NOW!" I said I went inside and had a talk with the kids. "Ok you guys it's my first day. It's my first time teaching. Look, growing up I was crazy like you I drove teachers crazy, now I realize it's not nice to do. You guys don't know how much work I put into these lessons and this classroom decor, I just want some respect!" They all stopped. Ok then let's continue this mornings work. They worked fine and some actually said sorry. I continued the day and it was fine.
The months went on and it was good, all the students were passing and have a great time in class. I have had so much fun working with these students! Something that I thought was going to be horrible turned out to be great!
Sadie's Story
"Can I keep him mom? Please?" Maya Roth asked her mother.
"Maya it's a stray cat, and you found it in the back lane!"
Maya squeezed the cat in her arms, and put a pouty look on her round face.
"Where is it going to sleep?"
The short child pondered for a minute."He can share a room with me!"
Maya squealed excitedly.
"How are you going to teach him to stay there, and to not go into my room?"
Her mother asked, silently hoping that her daughter wouldn't have an answer and she could get rid of the stray.
"I can teach him! Every time he learns to do something or not to do something I can give him a treat! That will make him learn! And when he does something bad, I'll squirt water at him with a spray bottle!
As maya was trying to reason with her mom, the cat jumped out of Maya's arms and ran to the kitchen.
"get it out of my kitchen now!" Maya bolted to the kitchen, like a horse trying to win a race. She heard a clashing sound, like someone just dropped glass on the ground. Her feet slipped and scraped on the floors tiles. As she ran in the kitchen, she couldn't see the cat. But she immediately noticed the table cloth on the floor, torn to shreds. She looked all around. There where broken plates and glasses scattered across the room. She tiptoed her way around the room, trying to not step in the shards of broken glass. She heard a faint sound, coming from the stove. Maya was shocked at what she saw.
There was the cat, sitting there unharmed, gnawing on a piece of the table
cloth. She started to make her way to him and when she got close enough to
reach him, she stuck of her arms and he jumped in to them. As he jumped, a pan
fell from the stove and landed with a loud. Carefully, trying not to step in the glass
or drop the cat, she got out of the kitchen and saw her mother quickly making her
way to her daughter. "Are you alright? I heard a loud crash!"
" I'm okay, but the kitchen is a mess!" Maya's mother rushed to her kitchen. She
gasped at the sight before her.
"So you risked getting glass in you feet, and possibly your head for a cat!?" Her mother exclaimed, still in a shocked state of mind at the sight of her kitchen.
"Yes I did! That proves how much I love him and it proves how much I want to keep him!"
"Get that cat out of my sight! Now!"
With her shoulder slumped, and a frown on her face, maya slowly trudged up to
her room, with the cat still in her arms.
Then, just at that moment, an idea popped into Maya's mind. One that she knew would work. It just had to. A smile blossomed on her face, as she ran up the stairs, her light brown hair whipping behind her. She put on her best cutie face, took a deep breath, and shouted:
"Daddy!"
